In most games, one or more players must make a mandatory bet before being dealt cards. These bets are called blind bets, and they are placed in the pot by the player to their left. The dealer then shuffles the cards, cuts them, and deals each player two hole cards. There is a round of betting after each player receives their cards. The flop is then dealt, followed by another round of betting. Finally, the river is dealt. A final round of betting ensues, and the best poker hand wins the pot.

The best poker hands consist of five cards. If a player has more than five cards, they are counted as a lower-ranking hand. The highest-ranking hand is a straight, which contains 5 consecutive cards of the same suit. The second-best poker hand is a flush, which also contains 5 cards of the same suit. The third-best poker hand is three of a kind, which consists of 3 matching cards of the same rank.

If you have a strong poker hand on the flop, bet at it to force weaker hands out of the pot. This will raise the value of your poker hand.
